7 LinkedIn hacks to get 15+ Job interviews in a month

Updated: Jul 13, 2021

Note: This post is only to help job seekers who just started with the job hunt using LinkedIn.

Yes. With less than 300 connections and a basic "All Star" LinkedIn profile with "0" posts, I was able to get 15+ interviews in a month. I had the profile on LinkedIn for years, but I haven't been very active. Would you believe it if I tell you it was almost inactive till May 2021? These LinkedIn hacks helped me in improving my profile, which resulted in attracting many interview calls ultimately.

What are they?

Let's see them one by one.

1. Profile Analysis

When I say Profile Analysis, it has nothing to do with tools. Just analyze your profile from a different perspective, say a Recruiter. Try to find what the missing factor is.

In my case, they were contents and keywords. I had everything on my resume but nothing on my LinkedIn profile except the Job title. Funny right?

2. Skills

Make use of the skills section. The limit for the skills section is 50 and prefer not to waste them. Try to get endorsed for your most valuable skills especially the top skills. Tweak your skills according to the job description if necessary.

3. Profile Reference

Whenever you find an interesting profile matching your background or skillset, compare it with yours. Check what is missing in your profile by doing a quick comparison. Of course, it's free of cost.

Say for instance, if you are applying for a Manufacturing Engineer position at Apple, just below the job description LinkedIn also shows profiles of people who are more closely related to the job. Those profiles are very good for profile comparison.

4. Keywords Optimization

When it comes to LinkedIn, there are no good or bad profiles. A potential LinkedIn profile has sounding values in it. Keywords are words that add more value to our profile. The keyword enhances your profile significantly and gives more visibility to your profile based on your rank. The algorithm is more similar to the ATS. So, better make use of the keywords by optimally placing them on your profile.

5. Connections and Networking

Always try to have a healthy connection rather than using LinkedIn just for job application.

Of course, they are helpful. You can get to know about many job opportunities in addition to job references with the help of proper networking. The posts you see on the feed depend hugely on your connections. Remember that.

6. Job search by post

Search for a role you are looking for in 'Posts' instead of 'Jobs' in the filter. Sometimes, a vacancy in a company is listed by a person working for a project which needs help. They would surely help you by providing the job application link. Refining your search improves your job find significantly. Trust me, it works.

7. Google Chrome Extension

Being an international student and trying to find a job in the USA is even harder, as most of the rejections you come across are primarily due to your visa status. The major concern here according to me is the "TIME". You spend like hours on a job application only to get rejection mails?

There is a chrome extension called "LinkedIn H1B Checker" which provides us with the H1B stats of a particular company in the job search. The information includes an approximate number of H1b/GC filed by the company. You can easily spot the companies who never sponsor and it helps you in not wasting time on a job application. They have stats of most of the companies except a few.

This extension may not be applicable for you, if

  1. You are not an international student with F1 or H1B visa statuses.

  2. You have data privacy concerns.
